Mount Baker Ski ascent
I don't think that I have been on skis in June but life in the North West is a bit different when it comes to seasons. It is still pretty cold and we had a lot of snow in the winter so the high peaks are still covered in snow. I was looking at Mt. Baker since almost 2 years. Probably everybody who has been in Vancouver or in the North West knows what I am talking about. The volcanoes of the Cascades are so prominent since the area around is pretty flat and the peaks are between 3200m (Mt. Baker) and 4200m (Mt. Rainier).
Here is a map of some of the Cascades Volcanoes.

So we planed another attempt up to Baker. This time the weather forecast looked pretty good, blue sky. Well, we arrived at the trail head and it didn't looked like blue sky. Later on it should clear up and we had an amazing evening.
At about 6000 ft (2000m) it cleared up. You can see two of our group, don't know who so.

And this is our aim. Mt. Baker

There were some interesting nature formations. The clouds formed a rainbow.

Our camp.

Some peaks sticking out of the clouds.

The moon comes up.

It was one of the best sunset I had in the mountains.
.
Next morning we started our climb at about 8 am.

At some stage we could skin up anymore so we had to put crampons on and boot pack.

Going up the Roman Wall.

Seppel and Ken on the top.

We did route no. 147 on the right hand side. There weren't any open crevasses.

That is a map of the route.

On the top: Ed, Ken, Tom, Thomas and Seppel. The peak is actually a pretty flat spot.

and then we skied down ... Ed rippin it.

Nice to ski above the clouds and the glacier.

Ken

Trying to look good. Well, we practice that more before we do a movie.

That's the Heliotrope Ridge. We camped on top of this. When we came up the day before you couldn't see anything. Perhaps it was better so since it looks pretty steep.

On the access road with Baker in the background: Ed, Seppel, Ken, Kate, Thomas and Tom.

I felt good to have a beer and be back at the car.
